biography
Dr. Murillo was born and raised in Cusco, Peru, and attended medical school at Universidad Científica del Sur in Lima. After graduating, he spent a year practicing rural medicine in a small community in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.
He later returned to his alma mater as a teaching assistant, where he discovered a passion for medical education. Before starting his Internal Medicine Residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, he joined the Clinical Problem Solvers Community, which sparked his interest in clinical reasoning. During residency, he was actively involved in medical education projects focused on clinical reasoning and served as a junior chief resident. His main career interests lie in developing educational tools that emphasize clinical reasoning in Rheumatology. He’s particularly interested in the intersection of autoimmunity and malignancy, as well as autoinflammatory conditions.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys board games and exploring different coffee types while honing his barista skills.
Why Rheumatology?
"I believe Rheumatology relies heavily on clinical and management reasoning, with abundant opportunities to discover new ways to treat autoimmune conditions. Moreover, being part of the medical team that helps patients regain the ability to perform essential daily tasks is incredibly rewarding for me."
Why UW?
"UW stands out for its robust organization and structured curriculum, offering many opportunities to align fellowship training with one’s individual interests. During my interview, everyone was welcoming and genuinely interested in getting to know me as both a person and a colleague. Additionally, the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty and close proximity to the outdoors were definite advantages."
