Biography:
Dr. Dewing is a board certified adult nurse practitioner and a board certified rheumatology nurse. She is also a UW instructor in the School of Nursing, Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Informatics.
Dr. Dewing earned her nursing degree in 2001 after serving as a public health volunteer with the Peace Corps in Guinea, West Africa. She received her masters degree in nursing and started working as a rheumatology nurse practitioner in 2003. She returned to school in 2008 and earned her doctorate in nursing practice terminal degree in 2011.
She is an active member of the Association of Rheumatology Professionals, the Interprofessional Division of the American College of Rheumatology. She has been a leader in the organization focusing on the development of education programs and support for new NPs and PAs in rheumatology, and supporting interprofessional collaboration in rheumatology. Her clinical interests include managing patients with inflammatory arthritis conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, connective tissue diseases, and osteoporosis.
Dr. Dewing has been practicing as a rheumatology nurse practitioner since 2003, when she graduated from the University of Washington. Her research doctoral dissertation was in the field of osteoporosis. In addition to seeing patients in the Strong Bones and Rheumatology Clinic, she also serves as faculty in the UW School of Nursing doctoral program.
Dr. Dewing has been a national leader, helping to advance and support the field of rheumatology, focusing on advocacy and supporting fellow NPs/PAs in rheumatology. She has served as President of the Association of Rheumatology Professionals, the interprofessional division of the American College of Rheumatology, and is a two-time recipient of the ARP President's Award.
Personal Interests:
In her free time, Dr. Dewing enjoys paddleboarding, snuggles with her dog, and cheering on her teenagers at swim meets.
