biography

Dr. Banik was born in Jamshedpur, India and immigrated to the United States early in her childhood.  She attended medical school at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science,  and completed her internal medicine residency at Oregon Health & Science University.  She worked as a primary care physician for one year in Portland, Oregon before starting her rheumatology fellowship.  Prior to fellowship, she conducted research investigating treatment outcomes in small vessel vasculitis, and participated in her residency's global health track.  Her career interests include clinical research and health care disparities.  Outside of work, she enjoys singing and making music, painting, and hiking.  

Why UW?

"I really enjoyed my interview day with UW faculty and fellows.  I felt it to be a cooperative, energetic and supportive atmosphere - a place where I would thrive as I trained to become a rheumatologist.  In addition to that, I love Seattle and would be returning to my alma mater and home! "

Why Rheumatology? 

"I love the challenge of making complex diagnoses through integrating the knowledge and skills of autoimmune disease and internal medicine.  I find that rheumatology is a harmonious intersection of diagnostic problem solving, making rewarding and long-term impacts in patients' lives, and a constant learning of new knowledge and advances in the field."
