Biography:

Dr. Chapa was born in Coahuila, Mexico. He attended medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. He later completed a Master of Science and a PhD with specialty in immunology. Part of his postgraduate training was made at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and at the University of Hamburg, in Germany. Through his training he developed an interest in the local and systemic immune response in different arthropathies, such as septic arthritis. In 2020 he was awarded with the European Bone and Joint Infection Society best papers award and in 2021 with the summa cum laude PhD distinction. His current research interests are based on translational research in autoimmune diseases and how neutrophils and mitochondria might play a major role for the progression and severity of these types of diseases.
